Potjiekos is a traditional South African stew that has been enjoyed by all. It is a cooked outdoors in a round, cast iron, three-legged cauldron called a potjie, on a wooden or charcoal fire pit.
Braaibroodjies are the South African version of grilled cheese sandwiches. These golden brown sandwiches with gooey melted cheese, sliced tomato and onions, and a splash of Mrs. Balls chutney, are a traditional side dish for any South African barbecue, or braai.

Paptert is a layered dish – with “stywe pap” (thick porridge) and a filling bacon, mushrooms onions tomato, etc. Basically, anything goes!
‘Spitbraai’ is the traditional way of catering for large groups of guests. Use any big piece of meat and slowly and gently rotate it for hours, over a prepared coal fire, while basting during this time, until cooked through.
